Yoga and Running

I was complaining to a friend about increasing stiffness and loss of elasticity in my running workouts. She recommended I give Bikram Yoga a try. I had never practiced yoga before. The first Bikram session was a real challenge. Muscles stretching, sweat streaming, pulse sprinting, my breathing not fully in control. I asked myself, “is this for me?” But there is something magical about a group collectively practicing 90 minutes of Bikram Yoga. Everyone is doing their best, working at their own individual level, no matter how experienced or how physically toned they are. The Uppsala studio owners Nicklas and Lizette and the other instructors generously advise how to get the most out of each of the Bikram postures. I may never get into the deepest bends. But the satisfaction and tranquility that comes after a Bikram session is priceless.
